Raising Mamay Cast Have a Special Bond with their Moms

“Si Gerald kasi minsan tinatawag niya akong Mamay eh so sinasagot ko siya nang Mamay. Bakit darling? O palo ko ikaw darling,” Ai-Ai delas Alas gamely answered the question as to whether she “brings her character home.” The Comedy Queen stars in Raising Mamay as Letty, a mother who ends up having a second childhood brought about by brain regression. Letty got shot and Abigail (played by Shayne Sava of the Starstruck Season 7 fame) takes care of her as a mom would a daughter and will eventually discover who’s responsible for what happened to her mom.

During the online blog conference, several cast members were present and a question they were asked was regarding their relationship with their mothers.

Joyce Ching recounted that when she got married to husband Kevin Alimon, her mom was the one who had the most difficulty letting her go. She says her mom isn’t expressive witb words. “Noong time na para magsalita siya, puro iyak, puro hangin.” However, she and other relatives ended up laughing because her mom ended up having a long speech anyway. Joyce thinks because there were so many unspoken words between them, it triggered that moment of outpouring of love.

Valerie Concepcion recounted her husband’s birthday greeting to her last December, which lauds how she takes care of him even without him telling her what he needs yet, that she knows what to give to him. She credits that quality to her mom. She recalled that during her wedding, people were laughing at her mom because the latter wailed and shrieked as if at a funeral. “Lagi ko po siyang kasama sa taping. Hanggang ngayon, kapag may out-of-town ako, siya po yung kasama ko parati,” Valerie said of her closeness with her mom. She is proud that 75% of what she is now is thanks to her mom. “Pwera lang yung pagiging bakla at maingay. Tahimik lang po kasi yung nanay ko so nagtataka sila kung kanino ako nagmana,” she added.

Ina Feleo, daughter of seasoned director Laurice Guillen, was not able to hold back her tears as she talked about her mom, who is usually not expressive, but has eyes that “can talk”. She recalled her wedding when she was walking alone down the aisle and her mom gave her a unique and memorable glance.

Raising Mamay is very timely because it is Mother’s Day on May 8. Other cast members are Gary Estrada, Abdul Rahman, Raquel Pareño, Tart Carlos, Bryce Eusebio, Ella Cristofani, Hanna Arguelles, Lei Ollet, and Orlando Sol. You can watch the TV drama every weekdays at 3:25pm after Eat Bulaga.
