Music and Magic 2025 Concert: What You Need to Know
“What started as a birthday surprise turned into a full-blown concert!”
This statement on Kuh Ledesma’s Facebook account last August 12 pertains to ‘MUSIC MUSEUM HONORS SANDRA CHAVEZ: Music & Magic & Friends’, a concert happening on August 20 at the Music Museum 8 o’clock in the evening.
Sandra is the former manager of the popular show band and Kuh’s discoverer. We were given the opportunity to sit down with the artists during their first rehearsal day at the residence of Nonoy Mendoza.
Music and Magic was active from 1979 until 1986. Even after they disbanded, the fondness between them never waned. “More like family…nagkikita pa rin kami, nag-uusap pa rin kami, may chatroom kami,” revealed Fe de los Reyes, who migrated to the U.S. in 1993.
Vicky Sevilla-Pangilinan recalled how she was first “borrowed” from her original band which played Wednesdays at the Alibi Bar, because Angeli Pangilinan left Music and Magic and eventually focused on talent management instead of singing. “It’s not just about us. There’s a heart there,” referring to the purpose of the show which serves as a fundraiser for Sandra.
“We wanna make sure she is fine,” added Kuh.
Jet Montelibano reminded the group that their first international tour was an initiative by the Department of Tourism, where they got to perform at the famed Carnegie Mellon University in New York, followed by an engagement at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
He also reminisced how his love for theater, his mentor being Peque Gallaga, led to him being part of Music and Magic.
The next exchange between us journalists and the group involved them pointing out who excels in a particular trait or skill.
Kuh: “Sino ang pinakamasipag?” (pointed to Vicky)
Fe: “Yung pinakamagaling?” (pointed to Kuh)
Me: “Yung pinakamadaling matawa tuwing rehearsals?” (Fe pointed to Kuh)
After this, Kuh pointed back to Fe and revealed that the latter liked making them laugh. “Eh kasi ayaw n’yong gawin yung ayaw niyang gawin,” Fe blurted out with a slight frown and chuckled a bit after this with Kuh.
