Kuh Ledesma Warms Hearts with Her ABCs on a Cold Friday Night

OPM’s Pop Chanteuse Kuh Ledesma unsurprisingly attracted a jampacked crowd again during the repeat of her concert Kuh Sings her ABCs at the Music Museum last October 18. Her love songs which both inspire and evoke introspection were punctuated by anecdotes and friendly banters with her guest artists.

Resolutely upbeat and uplifting, the diva with a distinct voice excels at telling tales. She doesn’t move a lot onstage, draped in her stunning gowns, and lets her voice do the talking instead.

This works especially well in her lively, reflective renditions of songs about self-love like her powerful opening of Celine Dion’s “I’m Alive” and Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” or in nostalgic songs like “La Vie En Rose,” which allowed her to show the power of her voice which can penetrate even the coldest heart.

Even more ethereal tracks like “Love Will Keep Us Alive” demonstrate her earnestness when it comes to the transformative power of love.

Upbeat songs like “Noypi” alternated with more subdued ones like “Pilipino Ako,” making the program well-paced if not especially dynamic.

My favorite number from the guest performers Nathan Randall and David Young is “Mr. Suave” while Nathan’s rendition of “Music of the Night” will give the Phantom of the Opera himself a run for his money.

Worth mentioning is also the opening act by The Storyteller Project led by Kettle Mata, who has a long working experience with Kuh.

The award-winning singer actress capped off the night with “Till I Met You,” “Dancing Queen,” and “Believe.”
