5 Real Life Lessons from Crosspoint the Movie

We can’t always win in life, so they say. So, when a string of unfortunate events pile up and bring a washed up actor and a construction businessman to their knees, they decide to take on the highly dangerous mission of capturing a violent serial killer for a huge sum of money that could change their lives.

Crosspoint a film written and directed by Japan-based Filipino artist Donie Ordiales which stars Carlo Aquino as Manuel Hidalgo and Emmy nominee Takehiro Hira as Shigeru Yamaguchi. Sho Ikushima plays the serial killer on the run. Here are 5 real life lessons I’ve learned from the movie:

  1. Talk to strangers as long as they don’t approach you in a dark alleyway – Manuel and Shigeru met in a bar where the latter paid for the former’s meal. We wouldn’t be able to enjoy this high-octane chase had Manuel simply walked away. Meanwhile, we couldn’t say the same for the victim in the first few frames who even went home with a creepy-looking Sho who approached her in the dark/
  2. Try to have a straightforward conversation with your family to avoid regrets later – In an Asian setting, a family’s support is important. A heavy problem can be made simple instead of being overly complicated if we let our loved ones into our lives. We should not wait until it is too late.
  3. Avoid loan sharks – Don’t be tempted by those ads of easy loans. You might not be punched and kicked like the loan sharks in the movie, but you’re definitely still in for a lot of hassle and shame if you don’t pay up.
  4. Bring a taser with you – I am not gonna spoil you whether our two protagonists brought a taser or not, but a taser is the best way to immobilize someone, whether they are attacking you want them down for the count long enough to be arrested, or you just want to escape a crossbow wielding homicidal jerk.
  5. Natural light is the best lighting for action thrillers – Forget about the neon lights which look like they came from a music video. In Crosspoint, the lighting design when Manuel’s being chased in the forest will give you a visual orgasm.

Other members of the cast are Kei Kurosawa, Sarah Jane Abad, Ian de Leon, Dindo Arroyo, Zeppi Borromeo, and Polo Ravales.

Crosspoint is showing in Philippine cinemas nationwide starring October 16.
