Failing Report Card: Las Piñas, Plagued by Crime and Lack of Leadership?

It’s no longer gossip—it’s the truth: Las Piñas, once a peaceful and orderly city, is now making headlines for crime and chaos. The question many are asking: What is City Hall doing?

In just a matter of days, two alarming incidents have rocked the city. First, the discovery of a shabu laboratory operated by foreigners and some Filipinos right inside a residential area. Second, the tragic death of two Grade 8 students who were stabbed by their own classmate. So young, yet already so violent.

According to residents, the city government seems to have lost its grip. The mayor—long criticized for her age and capacity to lead—has remained silent amid these issues. Instead of addressing the growing security problems, she’s facing backlash over the alleged presence of POGO operations that appear to be allowed to run right under the administration’s nose.

If mayors were graded with a “report card,” Mel Aguilar would likely fail. There’s no visible concrete action or clear plan to restore order in the city.

This isn’t about politics—it’s about the safety and future of Las Piñas residents. With rising incidents of violence, gambling, drugs, and wayward youth, it’s time for the people to ask: Did we elect them to stay silent or to take action? You’re paid with taxpayers’ money, after all!

Enough with the excuses. Las Piñas needs a leader who is aware, energetic, and brave enough to confront the real problems. You can’t just watch from the window while the city burns.

There’s an election this May. This time, let’s choose a leader who truly listens to the cries of the suffering Las Piñeros.
