Carlo Aguilar pushes for a women-friendly Las Piñas
In line with Women’s Month celebrations, Las Piñas mayoral candidate Carlo Aguilar has laid out his vision for a more women-friendly city, pledging significant improvements in healthcare, safety, and support services for women.
Aguilar expressed concern over the city’s inadequate maternal healthcare services, pointing out that despite having 20 barangays, Las Piñas has only one lying-in center. He described this as grossly insufficient in meeting the needs of pregnant women.
If elected, Aguilar vowed to address the issue by establishing modern, fully equipped maternity clinics in both city districts. His long-term goal is to ensure that each barangay is equipped with a dedicated maternity facility to provide comprehensive care for expectant mothers.
Beyond maternal health, Aguilar also tackled the issue of teenage pregnancy, emphasizing the need for stronger reproductive health education and awareness programs. He believes that proactive education is key to addressing the rising number of young mothers in the city.
The mayoral bet also raised alarm over the increasing incidents of violence against women in Las Piñas. As a preventive measure, he underscored the need to raise awareness about gender-based violence while ensuring victims receive the necessary support.
Aguilar pledged to strengthen the city’s Women’s Crisis Center by expanding its services to include counseling, legal assistance, and livelihood training programs—helping women regain their independence and security.
Aguilar criticized the existing approach of merely setting up women’s desks in police stations, arguing that more needs to be done to address the root causes of violence against women. He stressed that the city government should take a more proactive role in tackling the issue, ensuring a safer and more supportive environment for women in Las Piñas.
“ The welfare of women will be my top priority,” Aguilar declared, promising a city where women’s rights and needs are fully addressed.
