Pampanga should be named the culinary capital of the Philippines, according to Senator Imee Marcos
CLARK: Senator Imee Marcos announced that she has submitted a companion measure to the Senate that aims to designate Pampanga as the Philippines’ gastronomic capital.
“Karapat-dapat lamang,” she said to reporters on the sidelines of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines (LMP) Island Cluster Conference, which was held on August 21 at the Royce Hotel and included her as a speaker and guest of honor.
“…Lahat kami dumadayo dito para lang kumain. At kilala naman, tanyag naman sa buong mundo ang ating probinsya sa masarap na pagkain at kakaibang lutuin, at talagang malikhain ang mga Kapampangan, ang ating kabalen. Pag pagkain, iba talaga,” she exclaimed
Sen. Marcos made the comment in response to a question about what the nation should prioritize in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
“Ang pagkain kailangan unahin,” she murmured. “Para sa akin, pinakamahalaga ang nutrition… Yung education, yung health.”
Pampanga 2nd District Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is the author of House Bill No. 10634, which seeks to designate Pampanga as the Philippines’ gastronomic capital.
It was introduced in Congress in March 2024 and just passed on its third and final reading.
Farmers, fishers, and cattle producers will profit from the anticipated expansion of the province’s culinary tourist industry, particularly eateries and carinderias.
