Electric Car BYD M6 Steals the Show at GIAAS
A low-cost electric vehicle of the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) variety, the TANGERANG – BYD M6, became a hot topic at the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
The public exhibition of the BYD M6 took place at Serpong, Tangerang, from July 18 to July 28. The battery electric vehicle, or BEV, is said to have dimensions similar to the Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix; however, its on-road (OTR) price in Jakarta is just IDR 379 million to IDR 429 million.
“Now, the BYD M6 is a much-talked-about model,” Eagle Zhao, President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, said during a brief interview on the fringes of GIIAS 2024 on Friday, June 26, 2024.
The quantity of Vehicle Order Letters (SPK) for the BYD M6, according to Eagle, indicates the favorable reception it has received. He stated that the BYD M6’s SPK was the largest when compared to its three other models—the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3, and BYD Seal—but he did not provide a precise figure.
“Our national dealer partners continuously monitor the SPK which continues to increase from day to day. I agree that BYD M6 is now the most important contributor to SPK. This proves once again that what BYD provides is in accordance with market needs,” he said.
Eagle didn’t full inform its clients of the BYD M6’s distribution target. However, based on information gathered from sales representatives at the BYD stand, the units should be delivered to purchasers at GIIAS 2024 as soon as possible in the coming months.
“Regarding the distribution plan, none of our four models are treated more specially. We will arrange all deliveries for all models and there is no special treatment for the M6…. So, there is no special treatment like jumping the queue. Just follow the flow,” Eagle concluded.
Due to the licensing procedure and the availability of CBU import incentives for electric vehicles, BYD had problems with the delivery of the first three models. The model could only begin delivery at the end of June 2024, having been available for orders since early 2024.
Dealers in the field offered compensation if the unit would be received forever 75 days after posting the SPK, according to Luther T. Panjaitan, Head of Marketing and Communication, BYD Motor Indonesia, in order to give customers more confidence when ordering BYD M6. If not, a payment of up to Rp10 million will be made to the concerned consumer.
