For Kuh Ledesma, there are songs with double meaning

When one says the name Kuh Ledesma, it conjures up an image of her lavish concept shows. In the 1980s, she was well-known for organizing solo performances in places like the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Araneta Coliseum, PICC, and Folk Arts Theater. At the time, singers avoided such venues since they were hard to pack.

Kuh’s passion for drawing on the rich vein of indigenous art and modern pop music to create unique takes on songs was evident in the refreshing production of her all-Filipino concert AKO AY PILIPINO (1982) at the CCP. The show included a repertoire of ethnic sounds, classic kundimans, and beautiful pop songs. Eventually, the show spun off into a double album and a TV special.

On March 16, Kuh Ledesma’s birthday concert, “3:16,” a celebration aimed at inspiring and bringing joy to people’s hearts, will take place at the Music Museum in Greenhills San Juan, with it as its theme. What makes her recent concerts stand out is that the repertoire includes great love songs with a message of positivity, those which can be interpreted in more ways than one: “Pwede sa tao, pwede sa Diyos.”

The number “3:16” represents Kuh’s birthdate on March 16. Kuh revealed that her forthcoming concert is unique since her friends will provide testimonials about how God impacted their lives at a recent press conference held at La Virginia Ristorante in Timog, Quezon City.

She just released a new single titled “I Love You” which is a Wille Revillame original last November 2023. Her upcoming song “Walking on Water” is a gift forCecile Azarcon-Inocentes, a worship leader in the SanFo church. Kuh hasn’t recorded it yet but plans to finish it before May 2024, before Cecile’s 40th anniversary concert. The song was given to her 20 years ago but finally they were able to work on the minus one.

Kuh uses the concert as an opportunity to express her gratitude and celebrate all of the gifts she and her family have experienced over the years. Despite all of the difficulties Kuh has had in her personal and professional life, her religion has helped her stay afloat, and she has persevered and shown courage in the face of overwhelming adversity.

In addition to providing entertainment with her songs, Kuh hopes that her 3:16 Concert would motivate people to understand more about the significance of the numbers 3:16 in her life through her personal testimony. The 3:16 Concert is primarily intended to support THE HOLY BIBLE GIVER FOUNDATION INC. with its revenues.

Additionally, the Foundation has organized significant healing conferences in Cebu, Bacolod, and Cagayan. It has been lending support to non-governmental organizations like the Samaritan’s Inc. in Cavite and the Kalipay Foundation in Bacolod that provide care for mistreated children.

In addition to her demanding work schedule, Kuh has made an effort to visit treatment centers, jails, and orphanages as part of her calling and dedication to share the love and good news of God. Kuh thinks that instead of only giving imprisoned people or abandoned or orphaned children financial or material help, these people’s spiritual needs are just as vital, if not more so, because they are dealing with the stigma of neglect and imprisonment.

She feels that by sharing her faith and paying it forward, she is also assisting society by teaching people who society has rejected or forgotten important and uplifting principles. This gives them hope for a second, third, or even fourth opportunity at a better, more fruitful life.

In keeping with the concert’s theme, Kuh will be singing well-known pop songs with motivational lyrics. She hopes that her performance will uplift her audience’s spirits in addition to providing them with entertainment.

Along with Kuh are upcoming vocalist NATHAN RANDAL, as well as film actress and director Ms. GINA ALAJAR, 1970s music and film icon Mr. TIRSO CRUZ III, and Kuh’s daughter Isabella.
