ALOHA Philippines Makes Kids Masters of Mental Math

Many people all over the world dread mathematics. However, mathematics is very important in our lives that is why it is a primary component of entrance exams, along with Math and English.

What if I tell you that for as short as two-hour sessions a week, your kids could be the masters of arithmetic and perform calculations with ease in their heads?

ALOHA (Abacus Learning of Higher Arithmetic) Mental Arithmetic is a brain development program specifically designed for children ages 4 to 13. It was founded in 1993 by Mr. Loh Mun Sung, who adapted and developed the concept based on the abacus computational methods from China and Taiwan. The program was initially introduced in Malaysia and gained popularity, leading to its expansion to other countries.

ALOHA has over 4,000 licensed training centers in more than 35 countries. It doesn’t franchise its brand, rather, it licenses training techniques to its collaborators.

The brain development program consists of learning how to utilize the abacus, flash cards, workbooks, and motivational activities.

Just last July 30, the ALOHA Mental Arithmetic International Competition Malaysia 2023 happened. 700 students from 15 countries participated and 4 Filipinos took home trophies. They are Ryan Warren Merdegia (2nd Runner-up, 9yo), Darlyn Faith Fabilane (Grand Champion, 11yo), Rheana Yasmin Campos (Grand Champion, 10yo), and Jake Conner Tibayan Yao (Champion, 7yo).

Normally, the sessions just take up 2 hours weekly and there is homework which can be done in 10 to 15 minutes.

There are 3 types of ALOHA programs which cater to varying age groups: Kinder Tiny Tots (4-5), Tiny Tots (5-7), and Kids (8-13).
