Floyd Mayweather Jr. and AQ Prime Stream to Usher in a New Age of Sports Dramas

Floyd Mayweather Jr. was busy with his engagements left and right during his third visit to the Philippines, two of those thanks to one of the nation’s most successful MLM companies, Frontrow International.

When he’s not playing basketball or eating street food in the busy streets of Manila, he is doing endorsement shoots. One of his newest endorsements is for AQ Prime Stream, a snazzy new streaming app whose Creative Business Partner is no other than RS Francisco himself, the President of Frontrow International.

Last week, September 29, Mayweather was present in a boxing ring at the Cove, together with AQ Prime bosses Atty. Aldwin Alegre, Atty. Honey Quino, and of course, RS. Korean business partners were also present at the venue as well as both traditional and online entertainment press.

For this writer, the most touching part of the question and answer portion was when Mayweather was asked about his the backlash on Little Mermaid and his thoughts on racism. Though he stated that he’s unfamiliar with the issue, possible because of his packed schedule, he did not hesitate to verbalize his pride as a black brother.

“Me as a black man. I know my color, and I know who I am. I will always be proud of myself. I will always be proud of my people first. Everyday, I get up, I wake up, I am happy, that I am a black man. If I died and came back a billion times, the first, the main thing I wanna be, is a black man,” he said.

Mayweather does not just accept endorsements easily. This writer thinks that AQ Prime Stream’s diverse library which even delves into the stories of the forgotten and the ostracized, as well as Frontrow International’s philantrophy, were factors in his decision-making.

AQ Prime Stream app can be downloaded for free from the Google Play Store, Apple Store, etc. It still costs just 100php for 3 months.

Apart from seemingly dropping a hint about a documentary on Mayweather’s life and struggles to be produced by the Filipino-owned international streaming app, updates on the AQ Prime Stream page show that they are also planning to produce either a documentary or biopic on Asia’s Grandmaster of Chess, Eugene Torre.

Films, and moreso documentaries, are ultra rare in the Philippines, mostly because producers here will not risk money on a material that is unusual in the Filipino market. However, AQ Prime Stream is obviously willing to take that risk and this writer is glad that athletes will finally get the spotlight they deserve.

Who knows, maybe this move will actually pave the way for more attention and support to our sportsmen and women, a little-discussed problem in our country for decades.

Since AQ Prime has a Korean partner and Mayweather is an endorser, I truly look forward to original series in the vein of Twenty-Five Twenty-One and Hot Stove League, as well as films that tackle sports in-depth like Hustle, I Tonya, Million Dollar Baby, and The Wrestler.
